Dr. Gregory Welch
Team Lead - Professor of Chemistry
Dr. Gregory Welch obtained his BSc in Chemistry from the University of Calgary in 2003 and worked in the laboratories of Dr. Chivers and Dr. Piers. He earned his PhD at the University of Windsor in 2008 under the supervision of Dr. Stephan where he helped develop Frustrated Lewis Pair chemistry. He then moved to UC-Santa Barbara, where he studied organic solar cells as a NSERC postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Bazan. He began a faculty position in 2012 as a Canadian Research Chair at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. In 2015 he relocated to the University of Calgary as a Canadian Research Chair. His research interests are focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of organic/organometallic materials and use in printed electronics, coatings and catalysis. He was promoted to full professor in 2021. He enjoys raising his kids, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Thrash Metal, tanks, home renovations, and landscaping.

TBD
Kathryn Wolfe
MSc Candidate
Born and raised Albertan but an ocean lover at heart. Kathryn enjoys cooking, drinking craft beer, reading, and being outdoors. Kathryn completed her BSc in Chemistry with a minor in Nanoscience at the University of Calgary. She is currently working on the design and synthesis of new p-type organic semiconductors that are processable from green solvents.
Irene Park
MSc Candidate
Irene completed her BSc in Chemistry with a minor in Nanoscience at the University of Calgary (BSc. ’21). She is currently working on the design, synthesis, and characterization of new interlayers and photoactive materials for organic solar cells. Irene enjoys drawing, singing, and hiking.
Colton Atkinson
MSc Candidate
Colton completed a BSc at the University of Calgary. He is working on the development of bitumen inspired and derived electronic materials
Post Doctoral Fellows
Anderson Hoff (2021 - )
Anderson received his Ph.D. in 2017, from the Federal University of Parana in Brazil, under the supervision of Prof. Ivo Hummelgen. He is currently working on solution-processed ink formulations and validation of newly synthesized compounds by incorporating them on the active layer, or as novel interlayers, in rigid and flexible solar cells, using printing techniques compatible with large-area fabrication of OPVs.
Akpeko Gasonoo (2022 - )
Akpeko completed his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering under the co-supervision of Prof. Yoonseuk Choi and Prof. Jae-Hyun Lee from Hanbat National University, South Korea, in 2021. His current research focuses on optimization of small area printed electronic devices (OLEDs, QD-LEDs, OPVs) and establishing protocols for large-area film and module fabrication using slot-die coating.
